The Reading Room

The Reading Room is normally open by Appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and from 2.00 to 4.00 p.m. There is no charge. New readers are requested to complete a registration form. Pencils must be used for taking notes.

The Reference Collection

The strengths of the reference collection are the history of the Cathedral and Diocese of Lincoln, ecclesiastical history and biography, church and cathedral art and architecture, historical and architectural journals, and bibliographical and biographical reference books. In addition, there is part of the E.J. Wilson collection of architectural drawings.

Consulting the Rare Books and Manuscripts

In the interests of balancing access with conservation and security, anyone wishing to consult the rare books and manuscripts requires an academic letter of introduction. The rare books are kept at Lincoln, and can be consulted in the Reading Room, by prior arrangement.

Anyone wishing to study a manuscript must first apply in writing to the Cathedral Library at Lincoln, stating the subject and purpose of research.
